Groups

Role

The manage_groups role is required to use this feature.

Groups within ZEM represent a collection of switches. Common use cases for groups are technical rooms within a building, datacenter cabinets or switch stacks, but users are free to group the switches in any way they see fit.

Fields

In this section, the fields that are available to the user when adding a group are described.

Adding a group

Name

The name of the group. This can be MER (Main Equipment Room) or SER (Satellite Equipment Room) for example.

Order

The number by which the order of display for the groups is determined. 0 Is the number that is displayed at the top of the page.

Virtual

Check this if the group does not hold any physical switches. The group will not be displayed on the dashboard. It can be used for virtual machines or other devices that do not have a physical port.

Ignore

If checked, switches connected to this group are excluded from the inspection alerts.

Notes

Here any notes of interest can be added to the group.

Working with groups

When opening a group, you are greeted with the group screen. Here you can gather information about the group you are working on, for example its location, uploaded media and mutation history. This is also where you'll find and interact with the switches in this group.

Group overview

Floor plan

If you have uploaded a floor plan, you can mark the location of the group using the widget in the top-right corner.

Stages

Users can define stages for their switches in order to manage different phases of the switch lifetime during a project.

Intents

Below the stages, various intents (actions that can be performed on the switch) are shown. Here you can ping your switch, check its status or check who is logged in on the switch.

Switches

This table shows the switches that are currently configured for this group and their respective name, ip-address, engine, stage and port usage. From here you may edit existing switches or add new ones.

Uploads

This section shows files such as media or back-ups that have been uploaded to this group, and allows you to add new files. Images uploaded here can be referenced in the documentation.

Management

  • Delete: Deletes the group. This is only possible when all devices are disconnected from the switches and all switches have been deleted from the group.
  • Mutations: Show the mutations that have been made by users on the current group
  • Syslog: Show the syslog events for this specific group
